P. Spätgens was born on June 9, 1913 in Großwehrhagen/Selfkant. He went to school in Höngen, before entering the missionary seminary of the Sacred Heart Fathers at Sittard/Holland. He was ordained to the priesthood on July,23 in 1939 at Freiburg. He served in several parishes. For about 20 years he worked with great passion and amiability as a chaplain in Hetzelstift Hospital in Neustadt. English
Fr. Spätgens lived his old age suffering a lot patiently and strengthened by his admirable energy.
