New Bishop

Pope John Paul II has nominated Manuel Neto Quintas as the new auxiliary bishop for the diocese of Algarve/Faro. Bishop elect Dom Quintas has served as provincial of the Portuguese Province for the last six years. His term of office was scheduled to end on July 1st (cf. letter by Umberto Chiarello, vicar general).

The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) at Hales Corners opened its summer course this week. We hope to have more information about it in our next edition.

Dehon Photo of the Week

Following up on last week's photo of Fr. Dehon at Saint Quentin during World War I Stefan Tertünte presents excerpts from Fr. Dehon's diary written during those war years (Cf. Dehon during World War I (2)).

"As we already indicated last week, the German army occupies the city of Saint-Quentin on August 28, 1914. During the years which follow, the situation of the population, but also that of the armies worsens more and more: lack of food, lack of materials..."
