What's New?

General Chapter

The preparatory text for the 21st General Chapter: DEHONIANS ON MISSION: A HEART OPEN AND IN SOLIDARITY is in the process of translation and should be ready for distribution to the congregation soon. We will post it to our website as soon as it is made available.

This text is the 'working document' for the provincial chapters and the regional and district assemblies which will be held this year in preparation for the general chapter slated to begin on May 12, 2003 in Rome.

Welcome Back

We will repeat this section from last week due to the technical glitch that prevented us from having neither Spanish nor Portuguese pages posted to the site.

This is the first issue of SCJ News for the new year, following our year end break. We look forward to 2002, and encourage you to send news of what is going on in your province, region or district for publication on the site. With the new year we have made a few minor changes to mark the new year to our site.

We have also posted the final necrology page for 2001. It is sad to report that 59 of our fellow scjs died during the course of the year.

Unfortunately as we begin 2002 we have nothing new to report on the release of Giuseppi Piarantoni (PHI) by his captors in the Philippines; please keep him, his family and our fellow scjs in the Philippines in your prayers.

What's Happening?

Brazil

We hope to have a story in the next week or two covering the Social Teachings of the Church Seminar sponsored annually by the South Brazilian Province. Carlos Alberto da Costa Silva from the general curia is one of the presenters.

India

Check out the scj website for photos and stories about the recent dedication of the novitiate and minor seminary in the Guntur region. The minor seminary was financed by our Dutch Province while the novitiate was supported by the US Province (cf. http://home.talkcity.com/DharmaDr/scjindia/)..

Fr. Dehon's meetings with the students of St. John's College

EIGHTEENTH MEETING OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FROM ST. JOHN'S

August 18, 1901 (AD B 7/10 inv. 43.10)

Fr. Dehon was not present. It was a big disappointment for all. The written records state that it was for personal reasons. Fr. Dehon noted in his diary: "The meeting for the Alumni will be on the 18th. I must put that aside because it would be too difficult for me to hear laughter at this time because of what could be called the tomb of St. John's."...
