What's Happening?

Chile

After some delay, explained in the first paragraph, the scjs of Ancud have sent their 9th Chronicle on island life for scjs in Chile.

Ancud Chronicle #10
The month of February was a little rough. Juan is on holidays and Hernán landed in the hospital for prostate surgery. But that's behind us now, and though a tad late we continue with ours chronicles.

Due to a drought almost the entire month we had good weather with radiant sunshine, but thanks be to God the month ended with abundant rain. Chiloé does not have any mountain range as the continent does where water is stored in the snow in the high mountains. Here we depend exclusively on the rains, and if there are two weeks without rains, the wells go dry and the animals do not have any water....

Mozambique

On March 13, 2002, four young men were accepted as postulants in Gurúè.

From Fr. Nico

Rome

Fr. General and Umberto Chiarello, vicar general, return to Rome on March 23, 2002, having completed their pastoral visit to the Spanish Province. Also returning to Rome from an extended visit to India and the Philippines is Zolile Mpambani (CU). Earlier in the week Hadrianus Wardjito (CU) returned from visits to India, Philippines and Vietnam.

The general council will begin its spring meetings after Easter.

A Dehonian Historical & Spiritual Calendar

During the Dehonian Year, which began on February 14, 2002, and will end on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in 2003, marking the 125th anniversary of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, Egidio Driedonkx (CI) will be publishing a weekly Dehonian Historical and Spiritual Calendar for use of the Rome I & II Communities. He has graciously offered it to our web readers as well.

As we noted last week ...due to the length of this project we will only be able to post it in the original language, Spanish, with quotes from Fr. Dehon in French. Naturally, if there are some kind souls out there willing to translate this work into one or more of our five languages we will be happy to post their translation work to our site to broaden the use of this text.

The starting date for this work is March 14, 2002. This week we are posting the week beginning on Thursday, March 28, 2002. We l also have a 'link' page posted to the Letters & Documents section for easy reference to this calendar.

Calendario Histórico-Espiritual -Año Dehoniano 2002-2003 28-03.2002 to 04.04.2002

Fr. Dehon's meetings with the students of St. John's College

26th Meeting - August 7, 1910
(Ad. B. 7/10 inv. 43.10)

Mass was celebrated by Fr. Bouchacourt and the sermon was delivered by Fr. Bertrand. The minutes only revealed "Fr. Dehon will attend the Eucharistic Congress in Montreal and establish a mission in Canada. His words, as only he could do, touched our hearts. They are always practical notes."

NB As many will recall, last year was particularly a harsh one in terms of the number of deaths in the congregation for one year (59). As of March 17, 2001, we had a total of 15 scjs die, so far this year we have eight.
