Dehonian Year Week XXVI
Preparation for the 125th anniversary of the congregation

What's New?

A Request

Paul Rudy, a former US SCJ, who studied and worked in South Africa, recently wrote asking us to post a link to a hospice prayer group website. He wrote:

Thanks for your help with Bp. Potocnak.  I wanted to let you know that the pastoral care dept. here at Aultman hospital in Canton has started a web site.  The purpose is to have the needs of the sick and dying submitted so that they can be prayed for.  Please take a look and become a member (it's free).  My hope is that before to long people around the world will be praying for these requests and petitions whenever they log on.  Down the road I hope to develop the chat room, etc.  Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.  If you can let the entire congregation know of this link I'd be very grateful.  The address is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/internationalhospitalhospicepastoring  (what a mouthful).

 What's Happening?

Canada -- First Chapter for Region

The first Regional Chapter for the Canadian SCJs was held in Montréal at the Manoir d'Youville, Haven of Spiritual Renewal, from August 18-21, 2002. At the chapter Peter McKenna was elected delegate to the XXI general chapter, to be held in Rome starting on May 12, 2003. Maurice Légaré was elected as alternate.

Necrology

Last week we reported the death of +Fr. Robert Herr (GE), who died on August 3, 2002. Since we began the necrology on our website in 1998 to the same point in the year we had the following number of deaths.

South Africa -- visitors

Some young people with fantasy and trust visited the SCJs in Aliwal North, in May and July. First Emilie and Renaud (from Poland and France respectively) who wanted to experience Southern Africa by car going from Cape Town to Nairobi. Then Chris and Ganton - two other Frenchmen who go hitchhiking all over the world (!) from Greece, through Jordan, the whole Africa, to Latin America, Panama, Australia, Asia - back to France. Each of them spent five days with us. Emilie and Renaud have already completed their journey and sent their thanks in a letter for our hospitality. Their visits have caused a certain side effects - some of us started to dream again.

United States - profession photos

Thanks to Mary Gorski, director of communications, for sending us several photos of Joseph Thi Pham's first profession (August 15, 2002), as well as the reception of novices and renewal of vows which took place the day before. The symbol pictured here was designed by Thi for the cover of his first vow's liturgical service folder.
