Dehonian Year Week XXII

Preparation for the 125th anniversary of the congregation

What's New?

Canada

Just in time for the WYD [World Youth Day] in Toronto, the Canadian Region (CAN) launched its own website which can be accessed at: www.scjcanada.org. It is the beginning of a new experience in communications for the Canadian SCJs, and we hope it will grow and be used to share information with all SCJs and with people interested in our spirituality. Please come and visit us, and send us your comments and suggestions at: info@scjcanada.org.

1st counselor: Fr. Albert Vander Elst
2nd counselor: Br. Harry Theo Schurges
3rd counselor: Fr. Lambert Croimans

Indonesia

CB. Kusmaryanto (IN) has published his second book in Jakarta (Indonesia). Both books were published by Grasindo, the largest publisher in Indonesia, which also publishes "Kompas", the largest newspaper in Indonesia.

The title of the book is "Kontroversi Aborsi" (Abortion controversy). It deals with many arguments on abortion debate, based on the modern embryology and biology. All the arguments are based on the human embryology and biology, since there is no Catholic embryology or Moslem embryology,

Kusmaryanto writes:

"I didn't make any direct reference to the Church's teaching (scriptures, encyclicals or the Fathers of the Church), although the content is 100% Church's teaching, because I want to reach all people regardless of their religion, I hope that not only Christians but also Moslems, Hindus, and Buddhist will read this book.

There is movement in Indonesia which wants to change our abortion laws. Up until now, the only legitimate reason for abortion in Indonesia is to save mother's life.

Several people read the draft of the book. One of them is the Director of the Islamic Hospital in Jakarta who is an Ob-gyn. I mentioned him in the book to assure Moslems community, that there is nothing in it against their religion.

Dr. Felix Gunawan wrote the preface/introduction of the book. He is the executive director of Perdhaki, (an organization of Catholic hospitals and medical doctors in Indonesia) a department of the Indonesian Bishop Conference."
