Simplification of "The Structures of the Congregation" Representation at the General Chapter

At their first meeting of the present six-year term in Rome in November, 1998, the provincial and regional superiors looked at the text: "Structures of the Congregation and Forms of Government", which were promulgated afterwards by the Superior General on January 01, 1999 (Prot. 2/99). But the evaluation of "Structures of Government" were remanded to this 2nd meeting as was an examination of representation at the 21st General Chapter.

What's Happening?

British - Irish Province

Chris Jenkins sent in this news item from the British - Irish Province website, though we are a 'tad' late in offering our prayers, hopefully we'll get a 'post' marathon report for our website.

Your prayers are asked for all the pilgrims undertaking the Scottish Cross marathon pilgrimage over the next eight days- your editor (Chris Jenkins SCJ) among them! Two groups are walking, one from the bottom of Loch Lomomd, the other from Fort William, meeting up on Mull on Holy Thursday. We then walk across Mull and get the ferry to Iona, where we arrive on Holy Saturday. Doubtless by then we'll have lost a few pounds and gained a few blisters.

Each group carries a cross as a witness and a reminder that we walk with Christ. There are times for prayer and reflection throughout the walk and the Holy Week liturgies are celebrated wherever we are. The plan is that, on Holy Thursday, the washing of the feet will take place as people step off the path into the Church Hall where we are staying. As all will have walked a lot of miles that day and some will not have had a shower for a few days this will be rather different to the normal parish version....

On Easter Sunday we will celebrate Eucharist at 12 noon in Iona Abbey, please join us in prayer then. For more information the Scottish Cross website is www.ScottishCross.org.uk

Fr. Dehon's meetings with the students of St. John's College

27th Meeting - August 6, 1911
(AD. B. 7/10 inv. 43.10)

At this meeting, Fr. Dehon made a presentation on his voyage around the world. But we have no text on this. Fr. Dehon noted himself in his diary that the attendance was low and Fr. Cronin gave the sermon in the chapel. During the meal, Fr. Dehon spoke on the contrast between the French persecution and the religious liberty in America and Asia. (NQ XXXIV, 18).
