What's New?

The Justice & Peace report from South Africa has been added to the Justice & Peace section. It can be accessed here by linking to South Africa.

A Postcard from Maison Dehon, Montreal has been added. Maison Dehon is celebrating its 10th year as an AIDS Hospice this year (Cf. Postcards).

We received word from the South Italian Province that Teledehon (Andria) now has a web site. It can be accessed at http://www.ba.dada.it/teledehon. It has also been added to our links page under Italy (Cf. Links). Teledehon is a social communications apostolate of the province and includes a UHF TV channel.

We received a message from Ged Flynn (BH) that he has updated their web site. Included is an electronic version of their magazine Contact. Check out his article on the Millennium. You can do so by going to our links page or using their URL http://members.aol.com/SCJmalpas/index.htm.

What's Happening?

The 20+ ESL (English as a Second Language) in Hales Corners enjoyed their taste of July Fourth Celebrations starting with the annual Independence Eve Fireworks display at the Milwaukee Lake front. This year students represent the following provinces and regions: Spain, Poland, Mozambique, Portugal, South Brazil, South Italy, Indonesia, United States, Finland and the General Curia.

If one is asking how can it be that there is an ESL student from the United States learning English? It's very simple he is Thi Phan a Vietnamese candidate studying in the province college program in San Antonio, Texas.

Congratulations to John Kelly (BI) who was ordained to the priesthood in his home town of Dublin, Ireland on July 4th.

Economics Explained: Everything You Need to Know About How the Economy Works and Where It's Going a primer on the economy by Robert Heilbroner and Lester Thurow has been sent to members of the US and Anglo Canadian Provinces in preparation for the General Conference. Bob Bossie was kind enough to pass along the letter he sent to members of the US Province along with the book (CF Economics Explained).

JUSTICE and FAITH WORKSHOP (a sabbatical opportunity)

August 15th - December 11, 1999. As we approach the celebration of Jubilee 2000, this workshop will provide opportunity for men and women to reflect on their prophetic journey with the poor, whether in the Third or First World.

Working in situations of poverty, oppression and destruction of our earth, where love and justice is denied, makes new and special demands on the followers of Jesus, whether lay, cleric or religious. The workshop will explore these new demands and the essential links between Faith/Evangelization and work for Justice. Particular emphasis will be given to recognizing and developing that holistic spirituality which is the only adequate basis of attempting to proclaim the Good News from the standpoint of the poor.

While outside resources will be available, the Workshop process will draw heavily on the sharing of experience, expertise and critical insight/feedback by the community of participants.

The venues for this 18 week residential workshop will be in London. The language is English

Admission by application only. APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 1, 1999
