Summary

The redaction committee consisting of Luigi Mostarda (IS), Aquilino Mielgo Domínguez (HI) and Maurice Légaré (CGA) presented a six page summary of the group responses to the questionnaire. The day's discussion will help the general council as it fashions new forms of governance to meet our current and projected realities. Whatever the final outcome, it will be done ad experimentum. The XXIth General Chapter, in 2003, will then have to evaluate and decide based on the lived experience of the experimentum.

Meeting Notes

The papers presented by Carlos Alberto on Justice & Peace and the General Conference have now been posted. They can be accessed at General Conference.

Today, two members of the assembly celebrated birthdays; Rein van Langen (NE) and Silvano Ruaro (ZA). The Dutch Provincial sprang for 'coffee' thus interrupting a tradition started at the XXth General Chapter of providing Italian Ice Cream!

Along with celebrating his birthday, Rein's reflection which was to have been posted on Saturday, is now on-line. Many thanks to Piet Adam (NE) who typed both the Dutch and English text, as well as, providing the English translation. Piet is a member of the curia staff who often assists the general secretariat in various ways. (cf. Rein van Langen)

Today's reflection is offered by Attilio Zorzetti (AU). Attilio has just started his second term in office. His reflection is in Spanish, with the initial English translation provided by Javier Luengo (HI). Javier has done most of our Spanish web page work, while a student here in Rome. He is now in the final stages of writing his thesis. (cf. Attilio Zorzetti).

The General Finance Commission took the opportunity of the Meeting of Major Superiors to meet here in Rome. Today they held a commission meeting, and tomorrow will take part in the general deliberations on finances before the whole assembly. The General Chapter approved several resolutions that impact directly on the work of the commission and on congregational finances.

In addition to their regular agenda the commission took the opportunity to meet with several provincial treasurers, or their representatives.
