Cameroon

50th Ordination Anniversary of Père Zerr, scj


Joseph Zerr, scj at his 50th Anniversary Mass held on Easter Sunday, 2002

The scjs of the Cameroon joyfully celebrated Easter 2002, not only as the Resurrection of Christ, but also as the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Fr. Joseph Zerr. Fr. Joseph was ordained on March 29, 1952, at Grenoble and shortly afterwards arrived in the Cameroon (thus it's also the 50th anniversary of his presence in the country. Since March 29th this year fell on Good Friday the celebration was held on Easter instead. The Mass was celebrated in the Sanctuary of of the Sacred Heart at Nkongsamba by Fr. Zerr and many of his confreres.

Holland

April 14 - 17, 2002, in Cadier en Keer, the Dutch Province will hold the first phase of their provincial chapter in order to prepare for the XXIst General Chapter. A second session will take place in October. Riszard Mis (CU), will represent the general administration at both sessions.

Latin America

We have received the minutes from the third meeting of vocational directors from Latin America held at the scj novitiate of Our Lady of Fatima, Jaraguá do Sul from April 5-7, 2002 (cf. III ENCONTRO LATINO AMERICANO DE ANIMAÇÃO VOCACIONAL). Please note the text is available only in Portuguese.

Philippines

As we reported last Monday, p. Giuseppe Pierantoni has been freed. During the week were able to gather some additional information and have added it to the original bulletin page (cf. Good News!).

Region of South Brazil (RBM)

On April 3rd, ESIC (School of Marketing) was inaugurated in Curitiba. It is a joint venture between the scjs of the Spanish Province and their ESIC school in Madrid (HI Province) and the RBM Region. The school building was a former minor seminary. The new school year began inFebruary.

Rome

New Doctors

Leopold Mfouakouet, from the province of Cameroon, who defends his Doctorate Thesis in Philosophy, on April 17th, at the Gregorian University, in Rome. The title of his dissertation is: "Jacques Derrida, entre la question de l'Écriture et l'appel de la voix".

Carlos Luiz Suárez Codorníu, from the province of Spain and a member of the Region of Venezuela, will defend his Doctorate Thesis in Exegesis, on April 19th at the Gregorian University, in Rome. The title of his dissertation is: "Construyendo la vida: la raíz 'rk en el Antiguo Testamento".

Venezuela

Congratulations to Alberto (Beto) Galíndez who was ordained a deacon in the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, Caracas on Sunday, April 7, 2002.
