Rome

A letter from Fr. General dated February 14, 2002, from Loretto (Prot. N. 32/2002), marking the start of the Dehonian Year has been posted to the Letters & Documents section. At present it is available in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, we are awaiting the French and English translations for posting.

What's Happening?

Rome

Two events were celebrated by the Rome I & II Communities. March 11th marked the first anniversary of the beatification of Blessed Juan Maria dela Cruz García Méndez, scj, the first scj to be beatified.

The community also marked March 14th as the 159th anniversary of the birth of Leo John Dehon with a prayer vigil on the evening of the 13th and with a day long celebration on the 14th.

South Africa

Alban Pascal Noudjom Tchana, Guy Basile Fouomené and Gilbert Kampta Tatsi

On behalf of his two companions Guy Basil Fouomene (CM) wrote an article (A Message from three SCJ Camerounians in South Africa) on their first months in South Africa. The three are members of the SCJ Province in the Cameroon and were sent to South Africa to do their theological studies at St. Joseph's Institute Cedara along side their fellow scjs from South Africa. Cedara is a national institute of theological studies for religious communities in South Africa.

A Dehonian Historical & Spiritual Calendar

During the Dehonian Year, which began on February 14, 2002, and will end on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in 2003, marking the 125th anniversary of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, Egidio Driedonkx (CI) will be publishing a weekly Dehonian Historical and Spiritual Calendar for use of the Rome I & II Communities. He has graciously offered it to our web readers as well.

Please be aware that due to the length of this project we will only be able to post it in the original language, Spanish, with quotes from Fr. Dehon in French. Naturally, if there are some kind souls out there willing to translate this work into one or more of our five languages we will be happy to post their translation work to our site to broaden the use of this text.

The starting date for this work is March 14, 2002. Therefore we are posting the first two weeks at this time covering the period March 14 -27, 2002. We will also have a 'link' page posted to the Letters & Documents section for easy reference to this calendar.

Fr. Dehon's meetings with the students of St. John's College

25th Meeting-August 29, 1909
(AD.B. 7/10 inv. 43.10)

Fr. Rigault was that main celebrant at Mass. Fr. Dequin, future rector of the College, gave the homily. The only point mentioned that we know of was that Fr. Dehon offered a toast for the beatification of Joan of Arc and spoke about the religious persecution in France.
