Justice & Peace

The English translation of the document  LTM (Third World Lay Volunteer NGO Association)
in collaboration with the Province of Southern Italy for those attending the Justice & Peace Conference in Montreal this fall has been posted to the Montréal 2002 page.

Brazil

Vidimus Dominum website has published a summary in several languages of the Message from the meeting of Latin American Justice & Peace directors which appeared on our site on the April 13th news update in Portuguese (cf. Globalization: Dehonians, a greater commitment by religious to justice).

We are posting to the Justice & Peace page the message to scjs from the same group (cf. Mensagem Final do Encontro Latino-Americano de Justiça e Paz - Curitiba/2002). Please note the text is available only in Portuguese.

The General Superior with the consent of his council has appointed a new provincial administration for the Franco-European to take office on May 1, 2002.

Latin America

41 young scjs attended the ongoing formation program for young dehonians at Jaraguá do Sul, the retreat house of the parish of São Sebastião. The participants came from the following provinces and regions:

  • Chile (CH) - 6;
  • Argentina - Uruguay (AU) - 4
  • Ecuador - 1
  • Venezuela (VEN) - 4
  • North Brazil (BS) - 3
  • Maranhão (MAR) - 2
  • Region of South Brazil (RBM) - 10
  • South Brazil (BM) - 11
Fr. General and Fr. Carlos Alberto da Costa Silva, general council responsible for Latin America, participated in the program.

Rome

Fr. General has returned from Brazil after attending the first meeting of Latin American Young Dehonians.

Fr. Giuseppe Pierantoni (PHI) left Rome on April 22, 2002, for his home town of Bologna. During his stay in Rome he had the opportunity of an audience with Pope John Paul II. As promised we are posting this week an interview done with him by Stefan Tertünte (GE) which was conducted on April 16, 2002.

Poland

The General Superior with the consent of his council has appointed Fr. Zbigniew Bogacz to a second triennium as provincial superior to begin on May 26, 2002. Following the process established for the Polish Province a consultation for members of the council is now being conducted.

Portugal

April 12 to 14, 2002, over 300 young people from the "Dehonian Youth Movement" gathered at Fátima , Portugal for their annual meeting. This year the meeting was on the theme "Young with a plan for life" A pilgrimage marked the beginning of the meeting.

31st Reunion of the Alumni-July 24, 1921

Fr. Dehon noted in his diary: Beautiful reunion with the alumni. "I reminded them that they are disciples of Joan of Arc and the Sacred Heart. St. John's began in 1897 when the free thinkers celebrated the centenary of Voltaire.
